Entry #6 Time Management

Running out of time?

Whether you struggle with maintaining good time management or struggle with procrastination, it is incredibly easy to feel like you do not have enough time to complete tasks that you either want or need to complete, whether you are a student or not. There are several ways to improve your time management, but today I thought I could focus on two options that have helped improve my time management skills as someone who struggles with procrastination.

Calendars

There are two different types of ways one can keep a calendar to help improve time management skills. The first way one could keep a calendar is by making a weekly calendar. By using this type of calendar, you list all events or commitments that occur on the same day and at the same time, such as a class or work schedule, a fitness schedule, or a time to study. Another way to keep a calendar is by making a monthly calendar. In using this method, you record any one-time events such as tutoring meetings, meetings with an instructor or work colleague, and any appointments.

By keeping a weekly calendar, it is easy to see your weekly commitments and keep track of your daily responsibilities. Using this method can help you maintain a work-life balance and improve your ability to say no to others to stay on schedule. By keeping a monthly calendar, it is easy to see your due dates or one-time commitments at a glance and never fall behind on a task because you do not remember the due date or miss an important meeting. This method also makes it easier to stay on top of any events or commitments that are scheduled in the future and reduces the probability of double bookings.

To-Do Lists

Another way to help improve time management skills is to keep a list, and there are two specific ways I will be going over. The first way is by keeping a list to track any actions or events that are not urgent that you need to do next; this is known as a “Next” list, such as making an appointment, meeting others, and completing goals that are not urgent. The second way of keeping a list is to track any actions that need to be repeated numerous times and are directed at a common goal for at least 14 days; this is known as a tracking form. This form can help identify the inner (mental) and outer (physical) actions needed to achieve your goal.

The benefits of using a “Next” list are numerous, but the main benefits are reducing stress by completing these tasks before they become urgent; it eliminates the burden of trying to remember a number of small tasks. By using a tracking form, you can get a visual of your habits and use that to realize you might need to do more to achieve your goal, or it can be used as a way to maintain focus and effort towards your goal.

Final Thoughts

These options can help you get organized and feel more in control of your time. All of the options mentioned have helped me greatly with improving my time management skills, especially since I am a full-time college student. This article from Coursera and Purdue Global also provides tips and strategies to better manage your time. I hope that these will be able to help you with your time management skills! Please let me know if these are helpful or if you have your own techniques for maintaining your time.

  1. Your blog turned out so great! The way that you organized this blog is really good, and it looks like you went above and beyond on this assignment. You gave great skills at improving time management issues, which I believe a lot of people struggle with especially in college. As someone with ADD, I have struggled with focus and time management since I was a little girl, so I have to constantly remind myself of keeping myself on topic and not letting my brain drift off into another place. Great Job!

Entry #5 Mayhem

Mayhem  Today, we will be looking at analyzing an Allstate commercial where mayhem is wreaking havoc on others. In this post, I will be focusing on the purpose of the advertisement and the design elements of the advertisement. I think it is an immensely useful tool to analyze the media you are consuming, whether that is media you are consciously choosing to indulge in or unconsciously consuming, like advertisements.  Purpose  The purpose of the Mayhem Promposal advertisement beyond its need to sell its product is to promote being prepared for the unexpected by showcasing examples of where things can happen out of your control. This is shown in the Promposal advertisement when Mayhem has seemingly affected the wind, which then causes the house to be set on fire. It shows that the unexpected can happen at any time, and it is better to have some sort of protection that can help you after an unfortunate event.  Design  The main thing you see when the advertisement ...

Entry #2 Learning Languages Part 2

My Language Learning Journey Since I briefly touched on my hobby of learning the Korean language in my last blog post, I figured I can go further in depth for you and explain why I am learning this language and other methods I am using besides the ones mentioned in the last post. Hopefully, this can help you either start learning a language or try any of methods I used to help you on your own journey.  First Introduction to Korea Image Source by Viarami via Pixabay The first time I was introduced to the Korean language was in 2012 when PSY’s “ Gangnam Style ” was everywhere and was being constantly played on the radio. However, it did not catch my attention at the time, and I was not aware it was even in Korean. The next time it caught my attention was in 2014-2015, I was browsing YouTube and was introduced once again to Korean music, I was shown artists such as BTS, GOT7, and EXO. I was captivated by the type of music these artists were making and I had spent some time looking in...

Entry #8 Farming Simulators

Farming Simulators  Recently, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time playing farming simulator games. Before playing Stardew Valley, I had never actually played a farming simulator before, so I thought in this post I could introduce the two main farming simulators I am currently playing, which are Stardew Valley and Coral Island.   Stardew Valley  Image Source via Stardew Valley Stardew Valley is an open RPG (role-playing game) developed by Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, and was released in 2016. In this game, the player inherits a farm from their grandfather; the player can either live off the land while helping to restore the town to greatness. It also receives continuous updates to the game; just recently, the game was updated to version 1.6; this update implemented many fixes, visual improvements, and new features and content. This game is extrem...
