Entry #10 Blogging Experience

That’s a Wrap!  Image Source by WOKANDAPIX via Pixabay The entire reason this blog was created was because it was a project for my English class. Before having done this, I had never blogged or even thought about blogging; now that I’ve done this, I admit it was a very enlightening experience. I thought going over my thoughts and feelings about blogging would be a nice closing point.     Thoughts  Image Source by  Deeezy  via  Pixabay I never really saw the point in running a blog; I didn’t understand why others would want to do that. However, after doing this for a few months, I think blogging is actually quite challenging. From having to think about topics that might interest the audience while also interesting you, the writer, to having to find images to use and fit the topic of the blog post.    I do think this experience has made me a better writer. Entry #9 Food Insecurity

Food Insecurity    In my English class, we are currently working on writing a persuasive essay about any topic involving food. For my essay, I chose to write about food insecurity and government solutions. To further explore the topic, I thought this post could explore and dive into an article regarding food insecurity.   Thoughts/Feelings Image Source by  Pexels  via  Pixabay This article by the Equal Justice Initiative regarding the rising food insecurity in America is very compelling in informing the reader why this is a serious problem that needs solutions. Using statistics from the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) to present the severity of the issue was certainly clever by showcasing how the government itself knows this is an issue affecting millions.   It was very interesting to me how the article pointed out that as government assistance programs get cut or lose t...

Entry #8 Farming Simulators

Farming Simulators  Recently, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time playing farming simulator games. Before playing Stardew Valley, I had never actually played a farming simulator before, so I thought in this post I could introduce the two main farming simulators I am currently playing, which are Stardew Valley and Coral Island.   Stardew Valley  Image Source via Stardew Valley Stardew Valley is an open RPG (role-playing game) developed by Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, and was released in 2016. In this game, the player inherits a farm from their grandfather; the player can either live off the land while helping to restore the town to greatness. It also receives continuous updates to the game; just recently, the game was updated to version 1.6; this update implemented many fixes, visual improvements, and new features and content. This game is extrem...

Entry #7 Fresh

Fresh       Image Source by  FelixMittermeier  via Pixabay Recently, I watched a documentary named Fresh , which focuses on showcasing the ways it is possible to achieve sustainability in agriculture. This topic is something I have never really thought of before. At most, I knew food was farmed but never how it was farmed. After watching this film, I thought I could explore the purpose of the film and go deeper into why this matters.       Purpose    Image Source by  congerdesign  via  Pixabay This film is trying to persuade its viewers that it is possible to make the change to sustainable agriculture rather than continue using industrialized agriculture, and in making the change, it is healthier for everyone involved. An example of the film arguing for sustainable agriculture is an interview with Andrew Kimbrell, an Executive Direc...

Entry #6 Time Management

Running out of time? Image Source by geralt via Pixabay Whether you struggle with maintaining good time management or struggle with procrastination, it is incredibly easy to feel like you do not have enough time to complete tasks that you either want or need to complete, whether you are a student or not. There are several ways to improve your time management, but today I thought I could focus on two options that have helped improve my time management skills as someone who struggles with procrastination.  Calendars  Image Source by marijana1 via Pixabay There are two different types of ways one can keep a calendar to help improve time management skills. The first way one could keep a calendar is by making a weekly calendar. By using this type of calendar, you list all events or commitments that occur on the same day and at the same time, such as a class or work schedule, a fitness schedule, or a time to study. Another way to keep a calendar is by making a monthly calendar. ...

Entry #5 Mayhem

Mayhem  Today, we will be looking at analyzing an Allstate commercial where mayhem is wreaking havoc on others. In this post, I will be focusing on the purpose of the advertisement and the design elements of the advertisement. I think it is an immensely useful tool to analyze the media you are consuming, whether that is media you are consciously choosing to indulge in or unconsciously consuming, like advertisements.  Purpose  The purpose of the Mayhem Promposal advertisement beyond its need to sell its product is to promote being prepared for the unexpected by showcasing examples of where things can happen out of your control. This is shown in the Promposal advertisement when Mayhem has seemingly affected the wind, which then causes the house to be set on fire. It shows that the unexpected can happen at any time, and it is better to have some sort of protection that can help you after an unfortunate event.  Design  The main thing you see when the advertisement ...

Entry #4 Mass Effect Trilogy

Welcome Aboard the Normandy! Image Source by  ChristianaT  via Pixabay Just this past weekend, I finished a playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy , and I would like to review my experience playing and what I thought about the nearly decade-old game. If you are unfamiliar with the Mass Effect games, it is a video game based in the distant future in the Milky Way galaxy where you play as a human, Commander Shepard, in the earth’s military forces. Due to a series of events, you must work with other alien races to save the galaxy from the trilogy’s villains, whose goal is to eradicate the human and alien races. The Mass Effect trilogy, which was first released in 2007 and then remastered in 2021, is a third-person shooter game that has roleplaying elements where your relationships with the other characters are important and entangled with the main storyline. I would like to go over aspects of the games that I liked and disliked; maybe at the end of this blog, you may decid...
